The Best boat trips in Cardigan Bay!

Tuesday June 12th, 2007

If you're looking for something to do in Cardigan this summer, be sure to check out "A Bay to Remember". Great boat trips around the beautiful west Wales coastline - you might even see us there!

iLike!

Monday January 15th, 2007

As a sucker for anything new and Apple (well, most things Apple - I really don't like iPhoto) I had to check out their latest venture, the iPhone.

I have to say that I'm sold already. Aside from the very cool "multi-touch" controls and other snazzy features, what is really interesting is that it comes with Safari web browser - enabling you to view websites as they're meant to be seen (as opposed to WAP versions of pages which can be very messy if not done correctly for mobiles). I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this one.

Internationalisation

Thursday June 8th, 2006

As I was writing the title for this post, the very subject I am about to embark upon became an issue.

Now, having previously been hounded by various members of my grammatically astute family for my occasional lapse into Americanised spelling, I quickly removed the "z" from the title and replaced it with an "s". But would correct English actually be a disadvantage if someone from America was to stumble across my blog?

Ok, I realise that wouldn't really be a problem as the word is technically the same, but it brings me to my point - how do we know who is going to see our website and how important is it to create a site that meets the needs of a global audience?

Now, I'm not talking about creating something that is a compromise, but rather designing to accommodate specific audiences, a process apparently known as Localisation. This might mean thinking about cultural perceptions of language and imagery, colour and physical considerations such as the use of keyboards in addition to the obvious need for language translation.

Internationalisation then, refers to making our sites ready and available to a greater number of audiences, globally. Seeing as we are already in a "buzz" about accessibility, why not take it to the next level?

Buzzzz words

Tuesday June 6th, 2006

We seem to be utterly led by buzz words, which is kind of ironic when half the time were not really sure what they mean. I guess thats the point of my post - people who can these terms are influencing the masses without doing much more than spreading the notion that something is important by giving it a name. We now apparently have plogs (which by the way are project logs) as well as blogives (web log archives). Will these replace blog as the next big internet buzz word?

So who do you have to be to create a buzz word? Anyone have any they would like to share?
